OTTAWA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Corel Corporation (NASDAQ:CREL) (TSX:CRE) today reported financial results for its first quarter ended February 28, 2009. Revenues in the first quarter of fiscal 2009 were $56.2 million, a decrease of 14 percent over revenues of $65.5 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2008. GAAP net loss in the first quarter of fiscal 2009 was $1.5 million, or $0.06 per basic and diluted share, compared to a GAAP net loss of $30,000 or $(0.00) per basic and diluted share, in the first quarter of fiscal 2008.
Non-GAAP adjusted net income for the first quarter of fiscal 2009 was $5.4 million, or $0.21 per basic and diluted share, compared to non-GAAP adjusted net income for the first quarter of fiscal 2008 of $6.7 million, or $0.26 per diluted share. Non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA in the first quarter of fiscal 2009 was $11.0 million, a decrease of 17 percent over $13.3 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2008.

To better align its expense structure with current revenues, the Company also announced today that it will implement a series of initiatives to further reduce costs. These initiatives include an immediate 10% salary reduction for all senior executives, 5 unpaid days off for all employees to be taken in the second quarter, and accelerated timing for the mandatory use of any unused vacation time. As a result of these initiatives, the Company expects to realize additional operating cost savings of approximately $2 million through the remainder of fiscal 2009. The Company confirmed that it will continue to monitor its cost structure and take additional actions as required.
