MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.–Intuit Inc., supporting California first lady Maria Shriverâs WE Connect campaign, today launched the Federal WEb Connector, a free, online tool that helps people nationwide determine their eligibility and apply for five of the most valuable federal benefit programs. The company donated the tool through its philanthropic Financial Freedom Foundation.
Intuit created and donated the Federal WEb Connector, which simplifies the process of determining eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit, Federal Child Tax Credit, Federal Child and Dependent Care Expenses Credit, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and the Women, Infants and Children Program.
âFor more than 25 years, weâve set our sights on taking complex tasks and making them simple,â said Brad Smith, president and CEO of Intuit. âThe Federal WEb Connector helps hard-working individuals and families across the country save and make money. This donation reflects our commitment to care and give back to communities.â
The tool, available in English and Spanish in all 50 states, promotes financial literacy and brings unclaimed federal dollars back into states and local neighborhoods where people need it the most.
While millions of Americans qualify for these federal programs, many are unaware of their eligibility. As a result, billions of dollars in benefits go unclaimed every year, according to national consumer advocate organizations. For example, the Earned Income Tax Credit alone can add up to $4,824 in tax credits, and research by Moodyâs Economy shows that for every government dollar spent on food stamps returns $1.73 to the economy.
Led by Shriver and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the WE Connect campaign has grown to a multi-dimensional outreach and education program to help individuals and families. Intuit and the WE Connect campaign launched the program today with support from governors and leaders in Illinois, New York and Kansas. Shriver hopes to extend the partnership in other states in the coming months.
