OKEMOS, Mich.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–TechSmith Corporation, the world’s leading provider of screen capture and recording solutions, announced today the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will offer TechSmith’s Camtasia Relay, the company’s newest lecture capture and presentation solution, as its campus-wide lecture capture solution. By integrating with an academic institution, business or conference organizer’s existing media servers and learning management systems, Camtasia Relay is an affordable solution for organizations looking to share knowledge in a multimedia format with students, customers and colleagues department-wide or campus-wide.
“We were excited to participate in the beta program because we felt that Camtasia Relay would provide our users with a lecture capture solution that would be easy-to-use, affordable and capable of giving our students access to information in a familiar format,” said David F. Ullman, chief information officer for NJIT. “The end result is that TechSmith was able to create a product that provides NJIT’s faculty with a flexible and easy-to-use solution that does not put an increased burden on our IT department or my budget.”
Currently, more than 70 of NJIT’s faculty and staff across the campus are using Camtasia Relay and over 1,000 students are already accessing lectures on-demand. Additionally, students will be using Camtasia Relay to capture their classroom presentations.
Professor Geraldine Milano, professor of civil and environmental engineering for NJIT, has been using Camtasia Relay to capture her course lectures. “Having four sections of the same class, I recorded one section as a test and told the other three sections to view the class on iTunes,” said Milano. “The following week the students told me I should have been recording my lectures from the beginning of the term. They liked the control of pausing, rewinding and viewing the recording at their leisure. They said the quality of what they saw on their computer screens was very good and easier to see than written work on the board.”
“NJIT is nationally known for being a high-tech leader, and they really put Camtasia Relay through its paces during an extensive beta testing period last year,” said Camtasia Relay product manager Rich Boys. “Obviously, their decision to purchase Camtasia Relay as their university’s lecture capture solution is the highest praise we could ask for. Universities want a lecture capture solution their faculty will want to use and Camtasia Relay meets this demand by allowing as many faculty members as possible to record their classroom content as easily as hitting start-stop-submit on their laptops.”
Camtasia Relay is designed so instructors and presenters can easily record live lectures, learning objects, or presentations and publish them automatically so the videos are available in the highest-quality formats for a broad audience. Users can also edit their captured lectures and presentations with Camtasia Studio, which is already used by thousands in the education community.
With Camtasia Relay, instructors and presenters can use any PC or Mac in the classroom or conference room, at their desk, or at home. Audiences can view and listen to the recorded lectures and presentations online, via learning management systems like Blackboard, via iTunes U, or on mobile devices such as the iPod or iPhone. And with LDAP integration, IT staff can quickly and easily set up and assign recording profiles for their organizations based on the needs of the presenter and their audience.
